Review: Direct Strike by Lorelei Buckley

"This suspenseful novel is full of mind blowing twists and turns and keeps a reader on her toes."

A woman who is recently divorced, umemployed and bitter over the loss of her only child is hardly the person the gods would want to deem with a supernatural gift.  Maybe the prescription drugs Zoey Hawthorne is addicted to is making a mess of her mind and the lightning strike just added to her problems.  When voices start crowding into her already packed mind, she knows she must find the answer to this riddle.  Along the way she is led to three men who each offer her something different: her ex-husband,  a much younger boy toy and  the older man who lives next door.  Maybe moving to her deceased uncle’s ranch wasn’t such a great idea.   When she realizes the voices are ghosts from the past, she must open doors that really shouldn’t be opened.

Zoey is definitely not a kick ass heroine at the beginning of this book.  She has a lot of problems.  But, if I lost a child, I’d probably be even more of a mess.  I loved the way this character grew in the book and came to terms with many of her problems as well as learning to open up sexually.   This suspenseful novel is full of mind blowing twists and turns and keeps a reader on her toes.  It’s not a book for the squeamish and while it does talk about the death of a child, it is done very well and learning to deal with death is part of the healing process for Zoey.  The ghosts and their story add a layer of suspense that leaves a reader breathless.  The sex scenes will knock your socks off but the real thrill is the story itself.  If you are a fan of ghosts and romance and being kept on the edge of your seat, I’d pick up Direct Strike by Lorelei Buckley quickly!
