When the Countess schedules a demonstration, the patrons of the Red Lantern BDSM club wait breathlessly for the action to begin.  Blood is sure to flow when the Countess swings her whip.  Tonight is no different.  The Countess selects two “volunteers” from the audience.  Before she begins, she makes sure they both have health insurance and someone to drive them to a hospital.  Reassured, the Countess prepares for her bloodlust.

Before she lifts her whip to the two suspended slaves, the Countess makes a bet with one of the patrons.  They bet on who will last the longest under her whip without begging for mercy.  If the slave he selects last longer, the Countess is his for the evening.  On the other hand, if her choice wins the patron will be her slave for the night.  He accepts the bet and agrees to her terms.  The Countess always wins her bets.

Ricky Childress comes to the Red Lantern with a plan.  Ricky is a cop working for the Homicide Division of the San Francisco Police.  He is investigating the deaths of two men.  Their trails both lead directly to the feet of the Countess.  His big opportunity to question her comes when he accepts a bet that the Countess offers him.  She wins.  Ricky wants to get to know the Countess better and this is his chance. He plans to take her in for questioning.  Will Ricky get his woman?

In the second story about the bloody adventures of the Countess, Wayne C. Rogers returns to the Red Lantern and its bloodthirsty patrons.  The demonstrations given by the Countess are not for people into loving BDSM.  There are no safewords that will stop her whip from drawing blood.  The Countess is a vampire and her slaves feed her hunger.  Mr. Rogers is not giving the reader a love story, but the sexual tension is undeniable.   Has the Countess picked the wrong man for her next overnight slave?
