Authors, add your free read. Second Wind by Dee S. Knight
When Catherine Fitzgerald went to her first rodeo before heading back to her hometown of Boston to complete her last year of law school, she never dreamed she would not only meet but actually hook up with a real, live cowboy during the competitions. She had just wanted to enjoy herself after completing her internship in Dallas, but from the moment she saw the rugged cowboy trying to ride an enormous bull, she could not look away. It seems the attraction was mutual, because shortly after his ride ended, the man came up to her and introduced himself as Rafe Walker. After a few words of conversation, Rafe and Cathy quickly found themselves wanting to be with the other in an almost desperately passionate way. What followed was her every fantasy come true for the whole weekend. After Cathy returns to Boston and her schooling, she is disappointed when Rafe never gets back in touch with her, as she cannot forget the man who affected her so profoundly on countless levels. Months later, he shows up at her home with an offer of marriage, saying he wants her to come live on his ranch near Houston, where he knows she can find work after graduating. Cathy, though warily thrilled, wonders if the intense physical desire between them will maintain a marriage. Sincerely hoping it is enough, she agrees to his proposal. Time passes and four years into the marriage, Rafe and Cathy know they have drifted apart. Between problems on the ranch and her time-consuming work schedule, the couple believes something is missing in their marriage and Cathy decides to move out. Now they must each decide how they actually feel for the other, before it is too late and all is possibly ripped away from them forever. With her keen ability to create compelling storylines and memorable characters, Dee S. Knight is able make readers care about her hero and heroine as they connect with the always likeable couple. By filling the scenes with true-to-life situations where the actions of the characters are convincing, Ms. Knight has one believing every moment could truly take place. In this engaging story about a rancher and a lawyer, whose lifestyles are at compete opposites, I could just imagine a couple where their sexual attraction has them forming a relationship but real life issues put distance between them. The emotional tension felt by Rafe and Cathy is skillfully built, and their reactions to surprising situations are earnestly genuine. As they each decide what is truly important in their lives, readers get to experience their anguish and uncertainty about what course they need to follow to find happiness. However, when nature forces them to make quick decisions, Ms. Knight cleverly shows the true power of love. The more intimate moments between Rafe and Cathy are often sizzling with explosive passion, yet one also gets the sense there is unspoken heartfelt feelings behind their responses. SECOND WIND is a wildly romantic story filled with steamy sensuality.
