INTERVIEW with Gracie McKeever

Gracie, thank you for this opportunity to learn more about you and your books.

It’s great to be here and share information about myself and my books!

1. Please start by giving us some background about yourself. What do you do when you are not writing?

Of course I do a lot of reading (romances and almost all the subgenres ). I’m a television junky too, especially any show to do with paranormal and sci-fi. I love to go to the movies, listen to music, bowl, play handball, and spend time with my family.

2. Why did you become a writer? Who influenced you?

I’ve always written, ever since I was a child. I just always assumed it would be a part of my life, even if I didn’t make a career of writing. I’ve been influenced by several things and people. TV and movies are my biggest influence. As for other authors that have influenced me: Stephen King, Danielle Steele, Tina Wainscott, Octavia E. Butler are among the top ones.

3. As a multicultural author, did you have stumbling blocks placed in your way or was there a fresh market for your books?

I haven’t seen anything in the industry as a stumbling block as much as an opportunity. I think there was more a fresh market for my books and the timing was right for the type of books and characters I create.

4. What do readers look for in your books? I read on your website title that you write cross-genre romance, please elaborate.

I describe my writing as cross-genre romance as my stories, though all fall in the romance genre, could very easily and usually do fall into other categories, sometimes several at a time (e.g., suspense, erotica, urban fantasy, interracial/multicultural, alternative/glbt, kink/fetish (bdsm), paranormal).

5. Please tell us about your current releases…

6. Do you have a favorite book or character that you created?

Wow, tough question. I think I would have to say my favorite character is Genesis from Guardian Seductress. She was the first “bad girl” character I created, though she had so many other flaws and vulnerabilities that I felt made her relatable and sympathetic. My favorite book is probably my first published book, New Life Incognita. I did a lot of spreading my wings and stretching as far as world-building and characterization is concerned.

7. Do you have any up coming projects that you would like to share?

I have an erotica short story due out in Zane’s Eroticanoir anthology, Sensuality: Caramel Flava 2 this June 2009, called Leap of Faith. I’m also working on a new menage a trois series.

8. What is a typical writing day like for Gracie?

Typically, and during the week (since I work full-time), I write on the commute on my way to and from work. The rest of my writing and research I squeeze in at the end of the day/in the evenings and on the weekends. I try to get at least a thousand words a day. Two thousand words is a great day and I have had some days when I’ve gotten down 4-5 thousand words, which is an excellent day!

9. Is there anything else that you would like your readers to know about you?

I encourage readers to check out my work and my publishers at: www.amirapress.com, www.awe-struck.net, www.fictionwise.com, www.sirenpublishing.com
