INTERVIEW with Dana Littlejohn
1. Please start by giving us some background about yourself. 2. Why did you become a writer? Who influenced you? I have always wanted to be a writer. I used to write my own ongoing story back in junior high school. I loved to read and just wanted to be the one writing. I guess Jackie Collins kind of influenced me. After I read the book Lovers and Sinners when I was in High school I was hooked on the romance genre and wanted to be a part of it. 3. As a multicultural author, did you have stumbling blocks placed in your way or was there a fresh market for your books? I don’t know anything about the market, I didn’t write for the market. I mean, I can see how society is changing and multicultural couples are growing by leaps and bounds, but that was not my motivation. I grew up in a multicultural society so I write what I know. 4. What do readers look for in your books? LOL I don’t know. I mean, some have mentioned they like that the multicultural aspect is not the main premise of my work and that I celebrate whatever culture the couple has. But I have not flat out asked anyone that question before so I really don’t know for sure what they look for when they buy my book. I’m just glad they like them and continue buying them. 5. Please tell us about your current releases, Red Rose Publishing has The Last MacPhee, The god’s Silver connection, The Dioni Chronicles (3 book vampire series coming to print soon), Cajun Magic, Hot Chocolate on a cold day and Lover and the Firefly. Asian Spice, The Wrong Valentine and Christmas with Holly are at Phaze. Amira Press has Lover’s Brew and The sun rose over Cairo. Surge and Raine: A Merman’s tale (a twisted fairytale) is available at Eternal Press and Whiskey Creek Press-Torrid has Sekmet’s Awakening and Kibuka’s Moon as torrid teasers. My first latest release is a Valentine story from Freya’s Bower, It’s good to be Number Three and I also have an anthology with Kendra Mei Chailyn called Cupid’s Arrows that we have out at Red Eclipse Writers. 6. What was your favorite book to write? I still think my favorite is Lover’s Brew. Peter wholeheartedly believes in love at first sight and I think that is just wonderful characteristic. I just love him and he just came to me. He isn’t based on anyone I know. 7. Do you have any up coming projects that you would like to share? I have a few things coming out this year. My short story Blaze’s Black Widows, is coming in an anthology called Street Vices. TakeOver Publishing will send it straight to print this spring. I have The House (May09) and Behind the Wings (July09) coming from Whiskey Creek Press-Torrid. 8. What is a typical writing day like for you? Well ever since corporate America kicked me to the curb it has changed. I have returned to school and schoolwork has hindered my writing time somewhat. So now I write about 3 hours every day and maybe a little longer on the weekends depending on what we have going on. 9. Is there anything else that you would like your readers to know about you? Hmm, I think that is everything. Just keep an eye on my sites for recent updates. 10. How may we, as readers, learn more about you and your books? (Websites, blogs, etc.) I just got onto the whole blog thing. LOL So I now have a blog, www.liljohndana.blogger.com two websites, www.danalittlejohn.net and www.liljohndana.webs.com and a myspace, www.myspace.com/liljohndana Readers can always write to me with questions, ideas, idle chit-chat or even send me a review of one of my books at this email. I post reader reviews on my website, authordanalittlejohn@gmail.com Thank you so much for taking time out to talk to us at CataNetwork. posted Thursday, February 19th, 2009 | filed under Interviews
