Review: Honest Masks by Barbra Novac

""

Honest Masks is a very unique story. The characters have interesting pasts that shape the way they interact with others and one another. Using art and the monotony of working in an office as a backdrop to the story, brings a whole different dimension to what one is reading. On the one hand, the characters are flawed and very understandable, on the other, there is a bit of confusion to the world created. There is a disconnect at times that truly brings the madness of art to the forefront of the reading.

Chloe works every day in an office. Every night she heads home and creates beautiful fashions as if she never went to work day in and day out. James and Max live and work on a commune for geniuses, together they are in a wonderful committed relationship. James knows that something is missing from their lives and realizes a woman is exactly what they need. While interacting with other individuals online, Chloe meets Max. After a relationship develops between them, she meets James in real life. When Chloe’s past is brought out into the open, James learns that Chloe and Max share a past that neither of them could have ever imagined.

Barbra Novac did a beautiful job creating her characters. There is a very interesting depth to the story. The only real problem with this story is the odd disconnects that occured at various plot points. If one can over look those parts of the story they will find a very interesting story that you will want to discuss with other people.
