A year to the day after Kiera’s sister was murdered by the Scarlet Killer, Kiera thinks she hears her voice.  Haley, her sister, is desperately trying to get Kiera to acknowledge her attempts to contact her.  When Kiera begins to listen to Haley she finds out she did not know her sister as well as she thought and in order for Haley to live with the angels she must help Jaden reach their destiny. Kiera is told that she is Jaden’s true soulmate, and that it is imperative to get Jaden to fall for her within six months before it is too late. Haley’s last piece of advice is to think outside the box.

Jaden Hawkins is Haley’s ex-fiancé and the son of the newspaper owner who Kiera works for.  Jaden is asked to join his father who has left him with a proposition that will not only affect his future, but that of his brother as well.  Feeling the pressure of the ridiculous request, Jaden shows up on Kiera’s doorstop and is stunned by her plain Jane transformation and the continual surprises in her that catch him off guard.

Keira agrees to help Jaden with his predicament, knowing that Jaden has already taken her heart.  Jaden is struggling with letting go of his feelings for Haley and moving on with Kiera, whom he is falling deeply for.  An unexpected twist resurfaces when the Scarlet Killer has Kiera in his sights.  Haley intervenes one last time to help out her sister, proving that love can conquer all.

Once Haunted is a gentle blend of paranormal, mystery, and romance.  Kiera and Jaden’s chemistry is seductive and draws the reader in immediately.  Nicole L. Pierce has written an engaging tale that will leave the reader wanting more. I enjoyed this quick paced read and look forward to reading more of Nicole L. Pierce’s work.
