Review: RIGHT UNDER HER NOSE by LeAnn Coston

Samantha, “Sam”, is a successful architect and Nate is a successful contractor. They have been best friends for 20 years. They talk to each other about the lovers who come and go in their lives. If Sam needs a “man” around the house, Nate is always there for her. They both have busy work lives and neither has felt the need to find a mate and settle down.

Now suddenly Nate recognizes that he is not interested in any other woman and he really wants Sam as a life partner. He knows from past experience that every time Sam has become infatuated with a new guy it isn’t long before she finds something to criticize. Sam just doesn’t understand Nate’s sudden sexual attention. She may be unwilling to risk losing his friendship but even more it seems she is unwilling to risk the responsibilities of committing to a relationship. Can Nate make her see that they could be life partners and still be best friends?

This story was written in first person from Sam’s perspective which I found quite interesting. I did get frustrated with Sam being dense and slow to catch on to what Nate needs. But the process and complications were presented in such an interesting fashion that it kept me engaged and rooting for Nate!

I wouldn’t call the story light or fun as it is a bit of a psychological study. The story is full of emotional anguish but gets to a satisfying warm end! I liked the forthright style of writing and the realistic depth of the characters made me wonder if the author or someone close to her had gone through this situation!

If you have ever wondered what thought processes might go on in a long term friendship that changes gears this is a good compelling book to read. I will look to read more by Ms. Coston as I really enjoyed her writing.
