Review: The Art of Losing by Lisa Troy

"When Emily Stone decides to reinvent herself and throw caution to the wind instead of getting her heart broken; she happens to meet Blake not realizing he may lead a path to her future."

After finding her fiancé in bed with another  women on Christmas, Emily Stone vows to not get played by another man. Deciding to reinvent herself Emily goes from  baggy style clothes to form fitting wear,  as well as a few other changes that she makes including a new attitude to never let a man walk all over her again.  If anyone is doing the walking, it will be her.

On New Years she attends an festive club where the constant reminder that she is single glares at her. After a man bumps into her spilling her drink, she has had enough.  Storming over to berate the man, she gives him a taste of her mind.  Blake is intrigued by the snappish young woman in front of him who so eloquently shouts off her dislike for his behavior, but when he initiates more than the banter she is offering she quickly retreats leaving him without another look.

Blake thinks he  is the luckiest man alive when he finds that his sister’s teacher is none other than the fiery Emily Stone he met at the New Year’s Party.  Trying to win her over is an uphill battle, with Emily retreating whenever she gets a chance.

The Art of Losing weaves a delicate story about Emily whose insecurities from indiscretions of the past constantly play a  presence in her life. Conflicted with her growing love for Blake, but fearing the feelings are not reciprocated, cause constant doubt.  Lisa Troy is new to me as an author, and am I glad I had the chance to read one of her stories.  Believable story with heart wrenching moments as well as fiery passion between Emily and Blake.
