Sensual Reads Guest Blog: The Nature of Love by Tara Newlands

""

I’ve always been a romantic believing in the love.  I remember as a child thinking someday I’d meet a prince and fall in love.  Yet, age changes a person for better and for worst.  I realized sometimes the hard way, that when we most need faith to reach for our dreams, it’s the moment when faith suddenly leaves us.  What could magic could happen if we believed with all our heart that the life we wanted surely wanted us too?
Searching for magic lead me to the creation of my paranormal erotic and mainstream romances, I like to believe in happy ever after.  Each of my characters is unique and special in their view of the world.  Yet, they share with me the belief in a lasting love and they are willing to face the odds to reach for it.  I find that an admirable trait.

However, I think that in this technologic age we spend far too much time using a shopping list for love.  I know I did and I could never figure out why I wasn’t finding the love I really wanted.  In my quest to find ‘perfect’ love, I met my first story character hero, Octavian who is the hero of the novel, ‘The Dream King’ who was strangely enough searching for the perfect love he lost.  Together we explored what it meant to sacrifice in the name of love and with him I learned that no love is ever truly perfect because as human beings we’re pretty flawed.

Yet, I continued to search for the beautiful sexy and otherwise perfect love that I thought I wanted.  This is when I met Adam and Jena, the hero and heroine of my release, ‘Nirvana’.  These two lost souls searched for redemption and truth though a veil of lies that covered their eyes to find love that had long been withheld from them had been in front of them all the time.  In truth, their story redefined for me what the nature of love was.

By travelling with my characters into the heart of their search for love, I’ve learned much about myself.  It’s been an interesting, enlightening and sometime surprising journey that has really given new meaning to the phase ‘know yourself.’   Because it’s one of the first steps to learning everything good that this life as to often.   I know I’m someone pretty ok now and listening to my hubby in the kitchen makes me smile when I realize that letting go of what I thought was prefect helped me realize it.
