Review: Child of the Theatre by Caleb

"Caleb gives us a different glimpse of life in historical London with Child of the Theatre."

Orphaned at a young age, Sim Treagar has known nothing but the theater for all of his nineteen years.  Adopted by a famous actress, he had been raised by Dorothy Jordan at the Drury Lane Theater, amongst the grease paint and costumes.  When Lieutenant Gervase Levinson comes to theater with a missive from a Royal Duke, Sim’s life is set to change.  The two men are immediately drawn to each other and they embark on an affair that turns out to be not so secretive.  Their attraction does not go unnoticed by Gervase’s family.  They decide to use that affair against him to win the politics of the family fortune and inheritance  When Gervase is sent out to sea, he appears to be safe but Sim is left with a broken heart.

Visits back stage to historical Drury Lane was intriguing to say the least.  Sim was  a fascinating mix of experience and innocence, making him a loveable character.  Gervase, as a member of the military, had other calls to answer and they were separated before they could fully explore their love.  MM love combined with history make Child of the Theatre a unique and exciting reading experience.  If you enjoy these two genres, then Caleb’s Child of the Theatre is for you.
