Review: Infected: Freefall by Andrea Speed

"Andrea Speed takes us on a ride that is infectious and demanding with Infected: Freefall."

Back in the world where the werecat virus has changed everything, we find Roan.  Infected at birth with the lion strain of the virus, Roan is what is called a virus child but he is unlike any virus child around.  He has lived longer and is more functional than any virus child known.  Roan, though, is not without his own set of problems.  Life as a PI is not easy when your cases involve a rogue cat loose in the city, the suspicious death of a client of his friend, a male prostitute named Holden and the very cold case of a missing boy.  Add to that, he is still not over his husband’s death and feels guilty because he is in a new relationship.  To make matters worse, his old enemy, The Church of Divine Transformation has become unreasonable, claiming he is a traitor.  As Roan gets closer to solving his cases, he finds himself too close to the perpetrators for comfort.

Roan is an amazing man who seem to attract trouble.  He has a very different opinion of himself than what others have.  Through the series, we see Roan attracting a variety of people who wish only good for him and stick with him to ensure he has only good.  Unfortunately, there are many others who would use him for their own good and to his detriment.  His status as an infected who continues to live in spite of the odds is also amazing.  Andrea Speed has created some amazing characters who are like our very own friends.

Infected: Freefall takes us deeper into who Roan is and perhaps gives us a glimpse of the future.  There are surprises and twists as well as some emotional turmoil.  We see friendships cemented, even if Roan does not understand exactly.  There is also love in the air.  Infected: Freefall by Andrea Speed has it all.  Hop on for the ride and you will never want to get off.
