Review: Horsemen 5: Victory Stallion by Kate Hill

"Horsemen and arrogance are synonymous. So how do you help a horseman losing his sight and self worth regain all that confidence?"

Victory Stallion CoverJanelle is a Gatherer.  Being female in a male dominated role and being thought too weak to do her job are things to which Janelle is used; after all, moving from village to village as a Gatherer, she has to prove herself each time.  She is spunky, tough and smart.  She is also unwilling to take anyone’s attitude about her chosen profession and wise enough to avoid even casual “romantic” entanglements with horsemen.  So finding herself sharing dreams with the arrogant Wilder is a bit of a shock but not unwelcome.  Can she convince Wilder that going blind does not mean giving up flying?Wilder is an experienced Fighting Carrier and instructor at the Hall of Fighting Carriers.  At his age, he is beginning to think he will never share dreams with a woman and why bother getting attached to a woman if she cannot give him children?  Meeting Janelle is a dream come true; right up to the point where Wilder’s world comes crashing down around his ears when he begins to lose his sight.  Will he give up or can Janelle help him to become the horseman he once was?

Ms. Hill’s Victory Stallion is the perfect afternoon snack; guilt free and calorie free decadence in a delicious page-turner designed for those chilly, rainy afternoons.  I guarantee it will keep you warm with its steamy love scenes.  Wilder is a supremely confident male with all the yummy arrogance a woman loves (so long as it is not directed at her) and the added bonus of being a winged centaur like being in his other form.  Janelle is a no nonsense heroine with enough heart to make her feel like a long lost friend.  As always, Ms. Hill’s secondary characters add spice and help move the tale along without interrupting the flow.  Ms. Hill is kind enough to weave into the story some of the heroes and heroines from the previous books in this series as well as introducing fascinating new characters.  I would love to read about Keith and Prent  finding love (yes I am hoping for a ménage with this one) or Grigori de Forest meeting his dream lover.  I would like to take a moment to ask that everyone make the “sad puppy” eyes at Ms. Hill while begging for one or both of these stories.  Victory Stallion is proof that Kate Hill has what it takes to keep a series fresh and enticing instead of providing the same old dish over and over.
