Review: Spring Chickens by Margaret Ethridge

"Charming, witty, and utterly delightful!"

Heartsfield, Arkansas may never be the same, once a big city woman hits town.  The town’s most tempting widower is about to have his life changed forever.  Abram “Bram” Hatcher is a quiet widower with two grown children, grandchildren, and precocious parents who like to butt into his business more times than he likes.  He is perfectly satisfied with his life the way it is, remembering the love he shared with his high school sweetheart and taking care of the rest of his family.  He is a handsome, quiet, and lonely man; pursued by a Mary Kay lovin’, flashy Anna Albertson.  She is bound and determined to catch this widower and drag him to the altar, until a beautiful divorcee’ in an expensive SUV pulls up to the local Mercantile.

Lynne Prescott lost her marriage of thirty years to a younger woman, pretty typical these days, and now she has returned to a late beloved aunt’s hometown to sell her small house and settle her affairs.  When she meets and continues to run into the handsome farmer, she is too interested in the town and the farmer to think of leaving just yet.  Then, going through some old photos, she discovers a link between her aunt and Bram that has them both surprised.

Spring Chickens is an utterly charming and passionate love story between two lonely 40-something individuals to capture your heart.  Personable, completely relate-able, compassionate characters feel like “home”.  The cast is a brilliant mix of psychotic, precocious, and down-home characters you won’t want to miss.  I was thoroughly delighted with this book and will read more from this author.
