Review: Femme Noir 2: Charmed in the Big Easy by Delilah Devlin and Paisley Smith
In Under the Rainbow by Paisley Smith, MeLeah McKinney goes to the grave of Marie Laveau, the famed Voodoo Queen of New Orleans. In her tomb, MeLeah obtains a necklace belonging to Celestine Laveau, Marie’s daughter. In order charge the necklace with power, MeLeah needs to perform a sex magick ritual. MeLeah has no partner to do the ritual with, so goes performs as a solo act at a live sex show. The sexual desires she stirs in the audience will charge the talisman. As MeLeah begins her performance, Celestine Laveau’s ghost joins her on stage. Celestine helps MeLeah complete the sex magick ritual, but she has her own agenda. Celestine wants access to the vampire blood the witches have so she can live again. Will Celestine’s quest for life prevent the witches from battling Elizabeth Bathory?
In The Mambo’s Door by Delilah Devlin, Ingrid Kassel must obtain a candle from another of Marie Laveau’s daughters (also named Marie). Ingrid angers the goddess of the dead and finds herself trapped in Marie Laveau’s tomb. A secret door in the tomb leads Ingrid to a strange limbo. The younger Marie lives in a cabin surrounded by a swamp. Marie tricks Ingrid and captures her. Marie needs Ingrid’s powers to activate the candle her mother left her. Marie plans to use the candle to get out of limbo. Ingrid cannot deny that Marie stirs something deep inside her, but she needs the candle to stop Elizabeth Bathory. Will Marie force Ingrid to remain in limbo while she goes free?
The second book of the Femme Noir series picks up exactly where the first book ended. MeLeah and Ingrid are uniquely suited to obtain the objects needed by Magda so the coven can fight against the evil vampire, Elizabeth Bathory. Each author brings their own distinctive flavor to the story. Paisley Smith describes MeLeah’s performance with Celestine so vividly that the reader may need a cold shower to cool off. Delilah Devlin’s kinky battle for the candle is hot enough to burn (literally) the pages of this book. This is a great addition to the series and it plants the seeds for the next book flawlessly. Will MeLeah and Ingrid obtain the objects Magda needs before it is too late?
