Review: Love Machine by Electra Shepherd
When Blue (named for his blue skin so he is not taken for a normal human) is manufactured by Cally’s father he is like any other household robot. Cally’s sister installs a new program in Blue to allow her to have meaningful conversations with him, Blue begins to develop new ideas on his own. Robots do not possess emotions, but Blue starts to have strange impulses when he thinks about Cally. To learn how to please her, Blue begins to study human sexuality. His first experiment is a success so Blue continues to explore intimacy with Cally. Soon Blue wants to satisfy Cally the way a real man does. Will Cally help him reach his goal?
Electra Shepherd breathes life into a machine and allows a human to learn that there is more to sexual pleasure than something received from a lover or a vibrator. After all her friends pair off, Cally has no one to share her sexual adventures with. Blue gives her a partner that she can really experiment with. Cally’s brother and sister live separate lives in the same house, so Cally is on her own to do as she pleases. Cally finds herself developing feelings for Blue, but is Blue able to return her feelings? Will Cally be able to make Blue a better lover than a Ken doll?
